Shanny Brings In Michael Pittman
I'm reaching for the panic button as I type this.
Days after Travis Henry goes down with yet another hamstring injury Mike Shanahan has decided to bring in former Buccaneers running back Michael Pittman. I'm not thrilled at all.
A few years ago this would have been a good move but at this point I'm skeptical. Will Travis Henry even be wearing Broncos blue once the season starts? I don't know. Michael Pittman talks very candidly about being the starter in this interview.
What makes this even more interesting is the fact that the Broncos opted to sign the 32 year old Pittman after drafting Ryan Torain who is a similar built back but also has injury problems in his past like Pittman and Henry.
Could this be a disaster in the making? Who could save the Broncos?
Selvin Young believes he can.
As a matter of fact he feels that he can rush for 2000 yards this season. Travis have you passed any of that "second hand smoke" over to Selvin?
All jokes aside, it will be interesting to see who emerges as the man in Denver this year. My money is on the $2000 man Mr. Young.

Vince Almost Quit
It came out this week that Vince Young considered retirement just after playing one season in the NFL. He hasn't said why but you have to imagine the immense pressure of being a NFL Quarterback probably got to him. I wonder sometimes about these young guys coming into the NFL because many of them are not ready for that amount of pressure.
You have to remember that many of these kids are aged 20-22 and not even college graduates. Meaning their last job likely was at a Burger King, Foot Locker, or Walmart. To go from that kind of job to the bright lights may be too much for some.
I can't wait to see how Matt Ice stays cool in the ATL next year.

Todd McShay's Projection on Broncos Draft Picks
I found this on Broncomania and found it interesting. Its where McShay projected the Broncos picks versus where they were taken at. Check it out.

4th Round Pick-----Cory Lichenstigier---5th Round Pick
4th Round Pick-----Jack Williams--------3rd Round Pick
5th Round Pick-----Ryan Torain----------7th Round Pick
5th Round Pick-----Carlton Powell--------5th Round Pick
6th Round Pick-----Spencer Larson-------4th Round Pick
7th Round Pick-----Josh Barrett----------3rd Round Pick
7th Round Pick-----Peyton Hillis----------6th Round Pick
So these guys were projected earlier.
Jack Williams
Spencer Larson
Josh Barrett
Peyton Hillis
and these were projected later
Eddie Royal
Cory Lichenstigier

Do I want to see Shaun Alexander in a Broncos uniform?
The answer is a resounding no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no!
It makes me sick to my stomach when fellow Bronco fans kick this idea around on message boards. Alexander is over the hill and worn out. He's done.
Ever since Curtis Martin edged him out for the rushing title a few years ago and Alexander got his big contract he has been a different back. He isn't the goal line threat he used to be, seeking contact whenever possible to get one in for six. He has now been reduced to a back that tries to make people miss, runs to avoid contact, and not to get hurt. And to add the cherry on top of that he has never had speed.
Alexander is an injury prone, old, slow running back that Denver could live without. If we are going to roll the dice on older players I'd much rather see Mike Anderson back in Mile High.

Arthur Blank Makes it Rain On Matt Ryan
$72 mil, $34 guaranteed. That's how much you can make if you too can take Boston College to the ACC Championship game.
Granted that Ryan is a good QB and is going to be an upgrade over what they have eventually but is he $34 mil of good? We will see. Some are saying that this may be a sign of desperation by Mr. Home Depot, and I couldn't agree more. Vick put them in a bad way and the rebuilding had to start somewhere.
Let's see if Money Matt is worth it before we rush to further judgment.

Fred Davis Never to be Late Again
Redskins rookie Fred Davis stood in front of press and publicly apologized for oversleeping his first practice of his NFL career. I understand millions are going to be invested in him, and he made a bad first impression, but it's time to move on from this non story. People make mistakes and Freddy will be sure to buy two watches, an alarm, and a new phone soon as possible.

People Are Taking Notice
As many of you know, I am extremely vocal on certain topics. Recently I chose to be very vocal in my support of LSU for kicking Ryan Perrilloux off their squad. Well, the internet is taking notice.
HUIQ.com has featured one of my quotes in an article. You can read it for yourself here.

Im Right Again: Say No to Mendenhall
A few months ago, I went on a crusade of sorts against my favorite team drafting Illinois RB Rashard Mendenhall. Why? Because he's overrated. Mendenhype as I like to call him, was a one year wonder and in my opinion a one game wonder (vs. USC). However a lot of Bronco fans thought he was the second coming of LT or TD and bashed me unrelentlessly with blind hype.
Let's see who's right so far. In the first month of his NFL career Mendenhall has already been injured at minicamp and robbed in Chicago at 2 in the morning. This kid just has bad karma all over him.

Perriloux Will Play For Jackson State
Perriloux will finally make a good decision and transfer to Jacksonville State where he can play ASAP next year. As of right now they have no clear cut starting QB so Perriloux has the job as long as he doesn't mess it up. How many times do people hand out second chances? Not many. Don't mess this one up Ryan.

Seattle Gets It
When I judge a team based on it's draft history I like to look at which impact players they have been able to add in the first four rounds. One team that gets how you should draft is the Seattle Seahawks. They are meat and potatoes almost exclusively on the first day. Check out their draft history in the last 4 drafts:
2005
26. Chris Spencer - Pro Bowl caliber 26 year old center. Need I say more?
45. Lofa Tatupu - Possibly the best player at his position in the NFL.
98. Leroy Hill- More than solid player and could probably start on every linebacker corp in the NFL.
2006
31. Kelly Jennings - young athletic CB who is only getting better.
63. Darryl Tapp - exciting young player and brings ton of energy to the line.
128. Rob Sims - another starter on the line, quality guard that many teams would love to have.
2007
Went defense again on the first day with Josh Wilson, Brandon Mebane, and Baraka Atkins. Two more young defensive linemen in the rotation.
2008
28. Lawrence Jackson - DE who's talent was scooped up quickly.
121. Red Bryant - another defensive lineman, a huge gap stopper in the middle.
They say defense wins championships. Well, the Seattle Seahawks get it and I would not be surprised to see them with the Lombardi trophy sometime this decade due to their extremelly deep defensive line.

LeSean McCoy: 2009 #1 Overall Pick?
I've seen his name pop up surprisingly several times on 2009 previews and mock drafts so I decided to research him. I've admittedly paid no attention to Pittsburgh since Tyler Palko graduated so I wasn't familiar with McCoy.
Here are the vitals:
- 5'11
- 200 lbs
- brother of Texans WR LeRon McCoy
And here's the lowdown:
- One of the most celebrated high school RB's of the decade
- Originally committed to Miami
- Runs Darren McFadden's famous wildcat offense
- ran for 1,328 yards as a freshman
- freshman all-american, 1st team big east

Jackson State wants Ryan Perriloux
The smoke totin', backdoor casino sneaking, nightclub brawling former LSU Quarterback might get another chance. The coach of NCAA National Subdivision Jackson State says that he will try to persuade Ryan Perriloux to join his team. Perriloux has a long history of disrespecting team rules and getting into trouble but you cannot deny his potential as an option QB.
If Perriloux transfers to Jackson State he can play immediately as it is a National Subdivision team. Other players in his position such as Maurice Clarett were also suggested to go this route when kicked off prominent Division I teams.
If Perriloux wants a shot at the NFL he probably doesn't have to do this but it certainly would help his case to show he can turn it around. He has talent but huge character concerns would most likely keep him out of the upper rounds of an NFL Draft.

Xavier Lee is playing tight end
In case you haven't heard it, those dirty birds in Baltimore got so competitive in camp that a 85 man brawl busted out on the field. Apparently a DB started it. There were also a few interesting notes about Ravens camp including..
Former Flordia State QB Xavier Lee now playing tight end
Ray Rice's new role model is Willis McGahee (scary)

Chris Henry wants to be a Saint or a Cowboy
I should add a new category on here, called idiots.
I don't know if it's a late Aprils fools joke or something, but Chris Henry has expressed interest in playing for the Saints or Cowboys. I don't think football is going to be in his future but we'll see.
From the perspective of the Cowboys, how much street cred do you need on one team? Henry, Tank Johnson, and Rainman Jones have more than enough issues for one lockeroom. I have posted that Jerry Jones likes working with players with issues, but not to Henry's effect. He is a guy that seems to find bad things, or bad things always seem to find him. I hope no team is dumb enough to really sign this guy.

2009 Prospect: James Davis RB Clemson
James Davis
6'0 220
26 Career TDs: most among active ACC players.
How high can he go next year with CJ Spiller taking more carries in the backfield?
Davis is hearlded for his speed and vision and has the NFL body already. He compares nicely to Clinton Portis but as a Senior, would come into the league much more mature.
We will keep an eye on Mr. Davis this fall.

Cedric Benson May Be an Idiot
Idiot or not, Cedric Benson is in hot water right now. Not only does he catch a boating DUI days after the NFL Draft (seriously, who gets those?) he is now fighting the charges. Allegedly Benson was drunk and resisted arrest while operating a boat but he says the police falsely accused him and used excessive force.
I think that Benson has even worse problems on the field where he has proven himself to be a draft bust in the last few years since being drafted #4 overall in 2005. The Bears just grabbed Matt Forte' in the second round and it looks like they aren't playing around when it comes to rebuilding that offense around Kyle Orton and crew. Can Benson get his act together on and off the field? We will find out.

Ryan Perrilloux Kick Off Team
You know I'm tired of posting these kinds of posts. It seems that the marriage between Mr. Perrilloux and LSU wasn't meant to be. You are student athletes, you don't pay the $10,000 per year to be there. You have a FREE EDUCATION as long as you fulfill you one friggin' job: play football and stay out of trouble. If you can't do that then all power to the school for laying the smackdown on your hopes of having a professional career.
Hey Ryan, I'll have fries with that!
