Bruce Campbell will enter the draft

Campbell, Bruce Pictures, Images and Photos
Bruce Campbell is going to enter the 2010 NFL draft. I think this kid has a very good chance of being a top pick, maybe THE top pick depending on who has it. Tampa, Detroit, and Oakland could all use his services.

It's Smith or Stafford for the Lions

As the 2009 NFL Draft approaches, the Detroit Lions have a lot of things to think about. They need to hire a coach, and get him in sync with the management staff as to who they will select with the #1 overall pick they earned by going a perfect 0-16 this season. Looking at the prospects, there are 2- maybe 3 choices that make sense. Do you take the QB of the future, or a franchise left tackle?

Choice #1- Matt Stafford, QB Georgia.
Matt Stafford Pictures, Images and Photos
The highly regarded signal caller from Georgia. Stafford has put together a very nice season. His 153.54 QB rating ranks #15 among the NCAA. He is tied for 17th in the nation with 25 touchdowns and only threw 10 interceptions. He is a tremendous athlete and was the top passer coming out of high school. The only thing left to see about Matt is how he will translate to the NFL game. He struggles early in some games and in the NFL that is bound to continue as he adjusts to the game. If he goes to Detroit, he will have Calvin Johnson and Kevin Smith to help him out but will Detroit upgrade the talent to protect him?

Choice #2- Andre Smith, OT Alabama.
Andre Smith OT Pictures, Images and Photos
Andre Smith played very well along with the rest of Alabama's line for the most part of their season. With Andre Smith anchoring that line, J.P. Wilson was only sacked 16 times in 13 games. But In Bama's loss to Utah Andre was injured and they gave up 8 sacks to the Utes. If he goes to Detroit he would presumably have the job of protecting Dan Orlovsky. Orlovsky is a drop back passer unlike Daunte Culpepper who likes to scramble. At 6'4 and 330 Smith is a prototypical franchise LT and if the Lion's learned from the Dolphins quick turnaround they would know that fixing your lines goes a long way in the NFL.

Top Quarterbacks in 07

Here are a few of the Quarterbacks to watch for in the 2007 NFL Draft.

1. Andre Woodson, Kentucky
Can Woodson be this year's Jay Cutler? The stats say so, but he has to continue his upswing on the field to go high on draft day.

2. Josh David Booty, USC
Can USC's leader fall in the footsteps of Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart? I don't believe Booty is nearly as good as the former USC QB's but he can easily lead his loaded squad to a title this year.

3. Colt Brennan, Hawaii
Can Colt continue to put up monster stats against the WAC? Of course. Can he do it in the NFL? Time will tell.

4. Brian Brohm, Louisville
Can Brian bring the Heisman to Louisville?

5. Colt McCoy, Texas
Can Colt make the next step towards being Texas' next great QB? I'd say yes after his spectacular freshman season.

6. Dennis Dixon, Oregon
Can Dennis Dixon be this year's Troy Smith?

7. Matt Ryan, Boston College
Matt Ryan is everyone's quiet favorite. Let's see if what he can do in the ACC.

8. Pat White, West Virgina
Pat White comes back to a loaded WVU offense. Can he prove that he can also throw the ball? We'll see.

9. Chad Henne, Michigan
Henne and Mike Hart guarantee a national title this year. Let's see if they deliver.

10. Matt Flynn, LSU
Will Flynn get LSU to another national title?

Top 10 Picks For 2008 Draft

Already looking ahead, here's who I believe will be the big 10 in '08. In no particular order.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
1. Brian Brohm, QB Louisville
Brohm is this years big name franchise QB. He has all the fan fare and glamour behind him a la, one #22 overall pick this year. So why am I picking Brohm to go in the top ten this coming draft? Because he'll be a Cowboy, that's why.

2. Darren McFadden, RB Arkansas
Would have been a top 10 pick THIS year.

3. Jake Long, OT Michigan
As much as everyone knows I hate selecting linemen high in the draft, Im going to put long in here due to the fact he was leagues better than Joe Staley and Levi Brown last year.

4. Chad Henne, QB Michigan
While Im on Wolverines, might as well put the guy Long protects in here too. I believe Henne and Brohm are better than Colt Brennan, so they go in the top 10 and Brennan not.

5. DeSean Jackson, WR California
The nation's leader in kick returns last year will return for a strong season to cement himself in the top 10. He's who Teddy Ginn is supposed to be.

6. James Laurinaitis, LB Ohio State
The NFL is a league based on defensive speed, and the animal gives you exactly that.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
7. Malcom Jenkins, CB Ohio State
A lot of Buckeyes and Wolverines here... hmm.. but Jenkins is a versitle corner that has the speed Leon Hall doesn't.

8. Steve Slaton, RB West Virginia
Slaton is a quick runner with a NFL burst but I don't think he will ever live up to the ginormous numbers he put up in his college system. Nevertheless, some hopeless NFL team will bank on it.

9. Limas Sweed, WR Texas
A big 6'5 WR with sub 4.5 speed. There's a team out there that misses Terrell Owens that wouldn't mind drafting his clone....

10. Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
A speed rusher from the DT position. He will definately hear his name called early on draft day.

Top 10 Shockers of the NFL Draft

The results are in, and here are the top 10 shockers of the NFL Draft in my opinion.

10. The Lions take ANOTHER reciever. I know CJ is good, but their defense has major holes and Jon Kitna is not the youngest QB out there.

9. Broncos trade up for Marcus Thomas. Fresh off the Maurice Clarett days, the Broncos go for talent over character once again. Will it work?

8. Trent Edwards falls to Buffalo. A steal by the Bills. I thought he was the third rated QB, but the NFL thought otherwise. JP Lossman better look out.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
7. Packers and Panthers pass on Greg Olsen. Two teams with near complete offenses that need that punch to get them back into the playoffs... and they pass on Olsen?! I dont get it.

6. Michael Bush falls into day two. I guess no one likes this guy named Bush. That isnt uncommon in America...

5. 49ers trade back into round one for Staley. A guy who I predicted will be a bust, and the 49ers mortage their future to get him? At least he's in 'cisco, maybe he and Rob Gallery can hang out sometime.

4. Cards take Alan Branch in round two. I was just surprised they made a good pick.

3. Jamaal Anderson "slides" to pick 8. There was no way this guy was falling in the draft like everyone was talking about. Atlanta got a good one.

2. Cleveland trades back in for Brady Quinn. Horrible value! I like Brady, but he isnt worth TWO first round picks. The Browns could have given up less if they would have waited for him to fall into round two.

1. Dolphins take Teddy Ginn NINTH OVERALL! Bahahahaaha. Mr. 'Do it all' proved me wrong and snuck into the top 10. Who does he have compromising photos of?

10. Eli Manning/Phillip Rivers trade
9. Rams trade Bettis to Pittsburgh
8. Browns trade Warfield to Dolphins (1970)
7. Colts trade to draft Jeff George
6. Falcons/Chargers trade (Falcons draft Vick, Chargers draft Tomlinson & get Tim Dwight)
5. Tony Dorsett: Seahawks trade with Dallas, they pick Tony Dorsett #2 overall in the '77 draft
4. Ricky Williams: Ditka trades Saints entire draft to Redskins for #5 pick overall
3. 49ers get Steve Young from Buccaneers (who then draft Testaverde).
2. Marshall Faulk: Colts trade Faulk to Rams, (then Colts draft Edgerrin James)
1.49ers trade up to get Jerry Rice (from Raiders)

Top 10 Mock Draft!

MOCK DRAFT 1-15-07

1. Oakland- Calvin Johnson WR GT
The Raiders will be saying goodbye to Randy Moss and Jerry Porter this offseason. They must rebuild their offense, and Andrew Walter has tons of potential and is in good favor with the people in Oakland. Their problems would only be amplified with the acquisition of a rookie QB. I believe they take the man beast #1.

2. Detroit- Adrian Peterson RB OU
The Lions are impossible to predict, taking first round wide recievers THREE years in a row. I fully expect them to take Peterson with the lack of production they get at RB and their failure with Joey Harrington may have them turned off to investing so highly in another first round QB.

3. Cleveland- JaMarcus Russell QB LSU
Culpepper Jr. is Romeo Crennels's last hope. I hope Braylon Edwards wont try to fight him like Charlie Frye...

4. Tampa Bay- Jamaal Anderson DE Arkansas
Tampa is expected to say goodbye to Simeon Rice very soon. Hopefully Jamaal is his heir apparent.

5. Arizona- Joe Thomas OT WISC
Protect your investment in Matt Leinart

6. Washington- Alan Branch DT Mich
I expect Dan Snyder to add Warren Sapp and Nate Clemets to his allstar D.

7. Minnesota- Dwyane Jarrett WR USC
Looking for Teddy Ginn? Nope. Get the real deal in DJ.

8. Houston- Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame
Carr is done, and Plummer is not going to be a reliable option.

9. Miami- Leon Hall, CB Michigan
This team is stocked on offense and will have to give Culpepper a legitimate shot in 08 to justify signing him. Matt Roth is a good player so I dont see Gaines Adams here, instead they go with Leon Hall who projects into an instant starter.

10. Atlanta- Tedd Ginn, WR OSU
Lelie will be a free agent, Roddy White and Jenkins are still spotty... Finneran is not a downfield threat. If you dont succeed try try again.

Top 10 Prospects

As we head towards the Bowl Season, it's time to start focusing on the NFL Draft. Here are a list of the top ten prospects in my opinion, as we stand right now.

1. Brady Quinn, QB Notre Dame
The big 6'4 signalcaller has been hyped for sometime as the #1 overall Quarterback prospect in the nation. His pedigree with Charlie Weiss has NFL scouts drooling over his maturity and he has a pro arm. A guranteed future NFL posterboy, it would behoove a struggling franchise such as the Oakland Raiders to grab him.

2. Calvin Johnson, WR Georgia Tech
The man beast at wideout for the Yellow Jackets. Calvin makes collegiate corners look like merely children with his long stride and leaping ability. The best WR prospect to come out of college since Roy Williams.

3. Gaines Adams, DE Clemson
A prototypical pro DE. With his mix of size and speed, he is definately this year's Mario Williams.

4. Leon Hall, CB Michigan
A very well rounded corner with his speed and size (5'11). He could sky rocket up this list after the combine with the lack of a lockdown corner in this draft. Leon has a knack for doing a lot of things well, and has a real natural field presence you cant teach.

5. Jeff Samardzija, WR Notre Dame
Brady Quinn's favorite target. At 6'5 he has hands like glue, and an ability to find the endzone like no other in this draft.

6. Paul Posluszny, LB Penn State
Easily this years AJ Hawk.

7. Dwayne Jarrett, WR USC
After his breakout performance a few games ago Dwayne Jarrett is primed to be a top 15 pick again. His great speed and ability to make the athletic catch gets him noticed.

8. Troy Smith, QB Ohio State
The Heisman Trophy winner's lack of ideal height and tendency to disappear in big games will hurt his draft stock. However his athleticism is unmatched at the QB position in this draft.

9. Adrian Peterson, RB Oklahoma
Adrian Peterson's size and speed makes him a prototypical NFL runner.

10. Marshawn Lynch, RB California
Marshawn Lynch has shown the ability to be a workhorse at times but still be able to hit that second gear and slice through defenses.

Check back as next time I'll start doing Mock Drafts and highlights of some of the Draftees, as well as sleepers and I'll share my opinion of who's this year dummy picks.
