Detroit looking to shop #2 pick

Detroit Lions Pictures, Images and Photos

http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/02/23/lions-soliciting-offers-no-2-draft-pick/

The Lions are actively shopping the second overall pick in April’s draft, according to a league source, and would be very comfortable trading down, looking to stockpile three or four assets.

The Lions already have been in discussions with other teams about the prospect, according to the source, and have ample time to make such a move before the draft begins April 22.

Given the uncertain labor and economic climate in the NFL, finding a trading partner might not be easy. However, the possibility remains that a team might want to move into the top two to ensure it lands one of two dominant defensive tackles — Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh and Oklahoma’s Gerald McCoy — who many experts rate as by far the best prospects.

The Lions are trying to rebuild a long-suffering defense in particular, after sinking considerable high picks and resources into offensive skill players in recent years. They aren’t averse to taking the top player on their board, according to the source, but will seek to explore all options for a trade.

The Rams, who hold the No. 1 overall pick, have denied a report that they were in discussions with the Buccaneers to deal that selection, but there will be lots of jockeying and machinations taking place between now and late April.

Rams And Bucs Discussing Blockbuster Trade That Would Give Tampa The # 1 Overall Pick

ndamukong suh! Pictures, Images and Photos

Keep it mind it's just a rumor at this point

The Bucs and Rams have reportedly explored a deal that would send the No. 3 overall pick, a third-round pick, and QB Josh Johnson to St. Louis for the first overall selection.

The Bucs would then draft Ndamukong Suh with the No. 1 pick. According to Scout.com, the Rams compare Johnson to Michael Vick athletically, and they believe he has even more upside as a passer. While Johnson is an intriguing developmental QB, he's not close to being ready to start at the NFL level. The proposed deal makes sense for the Bucs, but it wouldn't solve the Rams' quarterback dilemma for 2010. Feb. 20 - 2:39 pm et

Why the Broncos Made Out Like Bandits

It's no secret by now that I love the Jay Cutler trade as a Bronco fan. Getting a malcontent off your roster is always a good thing, but when you get PAID in the process it becomes a great thing.

For one, Jay Cutler is a good quarterback. I'll give him that. But a great quarterback? Not so fast my friend. His 3,000 passing yards were inflated by Mike Shanahan's fake spread offense, and throwing to Brandon Marshall & Eddie Royal makes life easier. Combine that with Jay's inability to take blame after critical mistakes and you start piecing together a recipe for disaster.

On the Broncos side, they will be much better off without Jay Cutler. He and Bus Cook will not be missed in Dove Valley. Also look at the fact that he was traded for not one, not two, but three players! Including a starting quarterback in return. Kyle Orton does not pass the eye test but he does the one thing Jay Cutler could never do. Win football games. The two first round players the Broncos will be able to draft will make the team much better in the long run as well. And if just one of the three players Cutler was traded for becomes a Pro Bowler this trade becomes down right criminal.

The Bears get a great arm. I won't deny that. Jay Cutler's game as a QB has little to no flaws other than his Plummer-like decision making. The only thing that will hold him back is his weak mental fortitude. The Bears are already Christening him as the franchise's savior, yet they have a very old defense and no legit players on offense other than Matt Forte to pair with Cutler. Cutler has never posted a winning record in his career. How will all the losing and all the pressure effect him? If it's anything like his era as a Bronco look for drama to ensue once Cutler starts becoming accountable for the teams lack of success, deservingly or not.

Cowboys Get Pacman

Pacman Jones

The Cowboys and Titans finally agreed on a trade for Pacman Jones. The trade is based on a conditional fourth rounder in which Tennessee gets a fourth for the corner now, but would have to give Dallas a fourth if Pacman is not reinstated. Risky trade for the Titans knowing "Make it Rain" Jones' history but fair value considering last year a fourth rounder got you this guy:

The Redskins are Desperate

redskins

The Redskins have offered two teams trade offers to acquire top flight wide receivers in the last 24 hours. First they tried to get Ocho to no avail, so they did the next best thing and knocked on the Cardinals door about Anquan Boldin. Another no.

In this age of draft espionage can we believe that the Redskins are this desperate or are they trying to trick teams they are drafting a receiver high? I think it may be a mix of both ultimately with the Skins landing a receiver sometime on day one.

Vikings trade 1st to KC, Get Allen

Jared Allen

Kansas City will be without the services of star DE Jared Allen but will be two picks richer in Saturday's draft. The Vikings traded a first, third, and swapped sixth round selections with the Chief's to acquire Allen.

Interesting move because now KC has two picks, one at the top and one in the middle of the draft. I almost guarantee they will select Ryan now due to the luxury this creates. New mock soon!
