Diesel51 from Broncomania forums has put a TON of work into this and I just had to post it for all the draftniks! His explanation for the picks is simple:

I went to a couple of websites to get a list of each team's needs, and then tried to fill those needs without reaching too much for players based on how they were ranked on one site(draftnik I believe). Once major spots were filled, it just became Best Player Available. Sometimes when they needed more than one, especially early when I didn't want a team to reach, it was BAP for position of need. Maybe not the team's biggest need, but again, not wanting to reach too much.

Feb 17th Mock!

1. Miami Dolphins- Chris Long DE UVA
The Dolphins will look closely at Ellis and Dorsey here, but end the end Long will be the man taken. The defense is getting too old and youth is needed ASAP.

2. St. Louis Rams- Glenn Dorsey DT LSU
Combined with Carriker, the Rams will rebuild their front 4 stronger and younger.

3.* Atlanta Falcons- Darren McFadden HB Arkansas
A small part of me wants to believe Michael Vick will be back after next season. And if that's the case, combining Vick with McFadden could be deadly. Either way Chris Redman played fine down the stretch and you can always take a QB in round 2 if you absoulutely need to develop one along with D Mac.

4.** Oakland Raiders- Sedrick Ellis DT USC
The best player at the Senior Bowl gets to fill right in for Warren Sapp. They wont even miss big 99.

5.** Kansas City Chiefs- Jake Long OT Michigan
They have to replace Willie Sheilds among others. We saw what this man did for Mike Hart, can he do the same for LJ?

6. New York Jets- Vernon Gholston DE OSU
The Jets are LUCKY they are still going to get a great player at 6. Gholston is just what the doctored ordered for this defense.

7. New England Patriots (from San Francisco 49ers)- Dan Connor LB PSU
Hear me out. The Pats do have a lot of free agent corners but those needs can be met later in the draft or in free agency. A coach like Belichick is always going to take the player that fits best in his system over anyone else and that is exactly what Connor is. A smart sure tackler who is two decades younger than Junior Seau.

8. Baltimore Ravens- Ryan Clady OT Boise State
This is where the draft gets interesting. The Ravens can go a lot of ways, but they need a OL in the worst way.

9. Cincinnati Bengals- Keith Rivers LB USC
The Bengals have had terrible picks at LB the last few years with AJ Nicholson and David Pollack. Get it right finally.

10. New Orleans Saints- Leodis McKlevin CB Troy
I can outrun Jason David. Not good.

11. Buffalo Bills- Malcom Kelly WR Oklahoma
The Youtube rapping sensation gets to collab with Money Lynch for his next track.

12. Denver Broncos- Chris Williams OT Vandy
They need to protect Cutler, why not take a guy who has experience doing JUST THAT?

13. Carolina Panthers- Kenny Phillips S The U
I think Matt Moore played well enough to justify passing on a QB. Kenny Phillips is the pick.

14. Chicago Bears- Matt Ryan QB BC
Matty Ice gets to take over for Grossman.

15. Detroit Lions- Mike Jenkins CB USF
Dre Bly is gone, so they need another player who can fulfil guarding the opposing team's #1 WR.

16. Arizona Cardinals- Jonathan Stewart RB Oregon
In desperate need of a homerun threat the Cards can use Stewart badly.

17. Minnesota Vikings- DeSean Jackson WR Cal
A team in desperate need of a KR and a WR gets both in the explosive Jackson.

18. Houston Texans- Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois
Ron Dayne nor Darius Walker is the answer for Kubiak in Houston. Mendenhall hopes to be that man.

19. Philadelphia Eagles- Mario Manningham
I doesn't matter if it's Kolb or McNabb, whoever it is will need better receivers than the Eagles currently have.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Limas Sweed WR Texas
After losing the Calvin Johnson sweepstakes Jon Gruden will look to hook up Garcia and crew with a better pass catcher.

21. Washington Redskins- Calais Campbell DE The U
The Redskins can't resist players from the U and Campbell fills the need at DE.

22. Dallas Cowboys (from Cleveland Browns)- Felix Jones RB Arkansas
If they lose the McFadden sweeps, I see them using one of their first round picks on a RB.

Grades out as a first round OT, but started his career as an OG. Faneca will be leaving so there will be a void to fill.

Open Letter To Eli Manning

Dear Mr. Manning,

I know it has come to your attention that less than one year ago I posted on this very blog that you were in fact a draft bust. Well Eli, I stand corrected. I made that post prematurely.

Just a few months ago it looked like your boyish lack of confidence playing under the 'bright lights in the big city' would get the best of you. It wasn't only me either. The papers, the analysts, opposing teams and players said you'd never be as good as your brother or dad. We thought the Giants traded too much for you. We thought that your touchdown to interception ratio wasn't good enough. We thought you weren't loud enough. We thought you weren't good enough.

We thought your coach cemented a flight out of town for the two of you when you dared to play 60 minutes against the New England Die-Nasty. You could have won that game, but you reverted back to your usual self and let the clock run too low. You also lost a lineman in that game. It looked hopeless after that seemingly worthless effort on the way to Tampa.

Then something happened.

You stepped into the Matrix. With Ahmad Bradshaw as your Neo, you went on arguably the hottest playoff streak of any quarterback since Tom Brady. You destroyed Tampa. You shocked Dallas.

You made Terrell Owens, yes that Terrell Owens, cry.

You went into Brett Farve's backyard and emerged with another W.

Then you took down the Die Nasty.

You made Bill Belichick slither back to his hole, empty handed.

When you emerged from what looked like a broken play and hit David Tyree with what will forever be known as "the catch" my stomach dropped. I realized my favorite receiver Randy Moss wouldn't be getting a ring that year. I realized history was going to be made. Just not the history I expected.

Eli you are not a draft bust. You matched your brother in less than a year of his Superbowl win. You did something your father never did. Something Dan Marino never did.

You became a champion.

Is it too late to apologize?

The Ray Rice Watch

Now that I've calmed down about the whole Broncomania fiasco I can get back to analyzing the prospects in this year's draft. One of the most interesting prospects in my opinion is Rutger's Ray Rice. If you don't remember Rice was the KEY componet in Rutger's surge to the BCS last year and was a Heisman finalist with 1,794 yards.

But here's the thing you didn't know... this season Rice ran for 2,012 yards on only 380 carries. The boy averaged almost 5 1/2 yards per touch. He is constantly criticized for his lack of speed but when you top 2,000 yards it is impressive no matter if you do it 5 yards at a time or 70. Rice is currently the #6 rated back on most boards behind ECU's Chris Johnson. I believe some lucky team will get a good one in this New Yorker.

Broncomania is Full of Idiots

Today I get the pleasure of knowing that I've been banned from the Denver Broncos official Broncomania forum. It figures, in the last few weeks Ive been going hard against a few members in the forums who suggest the Broncos are taking Rashard Mendenhall in the first round.

Whether we draft Mendenhall or not is a moot point. The point is the degree of incompetence the moderators on that site have shown. Thread after thread they have allowed members "lancane" and "BroncoKazuki" to spin every thread into a pro Mendenhall thread. Even if the thread is about defensive players, one or both come into the thread spewing out B.S. "information" about defensive prospects dropping and their boy toy Mendenhall rising. The mods over there have done nothing about it, and when I try to show the other side of the coin that we may very likely NOT draft him I get banned. Total crap in my opinion. Yes, I was condescending to other members but it was nothing compared to the constant double teams with assistance from mods members over there have to endure if they dare speak ill of the golden Illini.

Its really pointless to retaliate against them because the whole legion's minds are all already made up. If we don't draft Mendenhall all you will see are threads whining about why Kenny Phillips, Dan Conner, or whoever we draft "sucks" and "was a reach" before he steps foot on a field.

You can hope and censor people all you want but the Broncos will not be taking Rashard Mendenhall this spring.

It's on now! The NFL combine is just around the corner, February 20th in Indianapolis. Here are 5 things I'd love to see:

4. Rashard Mendenhall get schooled by Jonathan Stewart- I just want to precict this now, Stewart will outdo Mendenhall in every vital test.

3. The fastest DE- its always fun to see which big man runs in the 4.5's.
